A.J.P. Taylor and K.B. McFarlane

Two very different Historians at Magdalen

To tie in with the C. S. Lewis: Words and Worlds exhibition, we have put together a small exhibition about two of his contemporaries, the Historians A. J. P. Taylor and K. B. McFarlane.

Drawing from items in the College Archive and their published works, we hope to demonstrate the key differences between the two men and how they approached their roles as Historians and Magdalen College Tutors—and what they thought of each other.

By exhibiting their correspondence, photographs, books, and their students’ work, we hope everyone will learn more about these two men, their time at Magdalen, and their influence on the College and beyond.
